Sweet Sweet Sixteen

EAST

Syracuse gets to play against an Auburn team many thought would not even make the tournament. That's the good news for Syracuse fans. The bad news is that Auburn is playing as well as at any point this season. Just ask Wake Forest.

Syracuse has a true star in Carmelo Anthony, but do not be surprised if Auburn forward Marquis Daniels looks just as impressive in this game. Auburn has really come on strong, but Syracuse ends the dream for Tiger fans.

The other game in the East has cinderella Butler taking on Oklahoma. Butler has played fabulously in the tournament, and proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that they belonged here. Darnell Achey's shooting has been as good as anyone's in recent tournament memory. Unfortunately for Butler, Oklahoma is simply too good and prepares too well to lose in this game. However, should Hollis Price not be able to play for the Sooners and should Butler really nail outside shots, there is always a chance. My head says Oklahoma all the way. My heart is a different story.

SOUTH

The Texas vs. Connecticut showdown should be a great game. Connecticut shot-blocker extraordinaire Emeka Okafor wanted to play for Texas, but was not recruited by the Longhorns. The Longhorns may come to regret that fact. Texas point guard TJ Ford is the best point man in the game right now. If you have not had a chance to watch him this year, do yourself a favor and watch this game. Texas should win and advance, but Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun may yet have a few tricks up his sleeve. He has been here before.

Maryland came within a miracle three of losing in the first round but, as point guard Steve Blake likes to say, "No other team is the defending National Champion." Blake and Drew Nicholas have been carrying the Terrapins on their back thus far. Michigan State is a bit of a shock to have reached this round, but the Spartans have been playing well. Ultimately, Michigan State's lack of a true point guard will allow Steve Blake to move Maryland to the next round.

WEST

Notre Dame has had trouble against physical teams like Kentucky and Pittsburgh, but fortunately for the Irish Arizona is somewhat less physical. Notre Dame has been getting by with a good balance and point guard play, but it is difficult to see Wildcat seniors Jason Gardner and Luke Walton
