To be champion, you beat the best, not merely those among the best who don't happen to be banned from the tournament. 7) The women's college tournament has all the same thrills as the men's Villanova's upset of Connecticut in the Big East tournament this last season was huge, and demonstrated that the Connecticuts and Tennessee of women's basketball can be beaten. Just like in the men's game, it is always fun to root for the underdog. 8) Tickets are cheap and good seats are available I have season tickets to the George Mason University women's college basketball games. My seat is a VIP seat, meaning that my seat is on the actual court, just outside the sideline across from the home team bench. Parking is free. The total cost for this fantastic seat for an entire season? Sixty-three dollars. Folks, that's less than six dollars a game. You will never be able to find season ticket floor seats for a men's basketball program at any rate even approaching that price. The bargains exist at the pro level as well. When I attend Washington Mystics WNBA games, I sit at center court in the second level up from the floor. My ticket costs thirty dollars. Thirty dollars at a Washington Wizards game gets you a seat in the top level, where the players look like little dots. Do yourself a favor, see some good basketball at a bargain basement price. 9) Connecticut Love them or hate them, the Connecticut women's team is on a run that is arguably as dominant as that of the John Wooden's UCLA championship teams. Domination in any sport is rare and exceedingly difficult to achieve. It is an accomplishment worth watching. Besides the UCLA teams, the Bill Russell Celtic teams, and perhaps Michael Jordan's Bulls, truly dominant teams have been almost non-existent in sports.
