Minnesota Roasters

Alakef Coffee Roasters is proudly located in the state of Minnesota. They are up in Duluth on the Great Lake Superior. Alakef has their own unique blends, including the Alakef Blend of African, Central and South American coffees. Their motto, "Roasting is our Craft, Service is our Mission."

Alakef is just one of a group of roasters with membership in the Minnesota Coffee Association. The Association is a great concept. It "was founded in 1993 as a professional organization designed to support independent owners and operators of Specialty Coffee businesses. MCA strives to promote and increase awareness of the local Specialty Coffee Industry."

Minnesota Coffee hold training seminars for their members. The most recent was in August at Alakef Coffee Roasters. Board meetings are also held regularly and membership meetings are quarterly. Discussions typically concern issues like espresso machine and brewer maintenance; marketing, and nominations for the next MCA Board.

Minnesota Coffee Association members receive a quarterly newsletter with industry news; Barista and coffee training; fundamental training about coffee, coffee roasting, brewing methods, drink standards; a business listing on the MCA web site; and a voice in the election of MCA officers.

Minnesota Coffee is also involved with the annual NASCORE Expo - the premiere specialty beverage expo. This year the expo was right in their backyard in St. Paul, Minnesota. The NASCORE Expo had the best speakers, workshops and tours of the hottest specialty beverage shops the industry can offer. You could actually sample the latest products of more than 200 exhibitors from all over the world!

Coffee associations like Minnesota Coffee and NASCORE serve this java industry well!
