FAVORITE THINGSMY FAVORITE THINGS " Sleigh Bells ring , Are you listening? In the lane snow is glistening " ... No doubt , there are, very few sleigh bells jingling along the lanes that lead into your " Winter Wonderland ". It's a passé of musical memorabilia that dates into the rural era of horse drawn sleds. T'was a time when people really wanted to, " Let it snow, let it snow , let it snow." Most of my favorite Christmas songs relate to the twinkling beauty of the season. Just the thought of being bundled up under a coat of fur in a real sleigh, encourages the vocalization of " JINGLE BELLS " ... BRRRRRRRR what a fresh, yet exhilarating feeling WINTER is. It is," beginning to look a lot like Christmas", especially when the whole world becomes one vibrant chorus of " JOY TO THE WORLD ". ( http://www.christmas-carols.net ) While, multi- generations have sung more solemn hymns of christianity, I do believe that it was the Heavenly Hosts of Angels, who sang the first joyous Carols on earth. Our contributions in revelling Carols first surfaced in the middle ages. They were utilized as interludes to the famous," Mystery Plays " which often re-inacted the birth of Christ, outside of the church walls. The approval of the medieval audience marked the beginning of caroling in the streets and dancing, thus, " here we come a-caroling ", into the new Millenium, gathering in malls, homes, churches and concert halls, expressly to realize that Christmas is spiritually, " the most wonderful time of the year." So, " DECK THE HALLS ", with boughs of Holly, Fa-la-la-la-la...La-la-la-la ... Holly boughs are synonymous with festive décor. This tradition dates back into the pre-Christian days when it was associated with eternal life and brought indoors at the winter solstice as a symbolic gesture. (http://www.shambhala.org/arts/fest/uncon... ) Most musician do indulge this customary delight, because, " WE NEED ALITTLE CHRISTMAS ", in the natural sense of the words, " right this very minute". Many of us, revel in the old festive habitude of," Chestnuts Roasting on an Open fire "... Have you ever tried it? Perhaps you need a few lessons. Check out " How to roast chestnuts " on the internet. I've tried to post them, but there were too many wonderful sites, especially at the culinary cafe and compuserve.com. Who knows ... the activity, may become a favorite Yuletide tradition in your family! In my experience, the best way to feel, " Jack Frost nipping at your nose ", is to venture into the woods singing, " O Christmas Tree ".
