" In sweet music is such art ,
Killing care and grief of heart,
Fall asleep, or hearing die,".....
William Shakespeare
Imagine drifting in a sea of warm blue waters surrounded and caressed by the sight and smell of red roses. How does it feels to float effortlessly thru the channels of time…dreaming, dreaming of beauty and perfect peace. Listening to Opera Diva Kathleen Battle is reminicient of this luxurious essence of being. On a single vibration of sound, she radiates the most pure, pristine tones I have ever heard. Ms. Battle is a singer, who possess more than just a beautiful voice... She has received a gift from God, a voice to share with the world. WHAT A VOICE IT IS ! Artists tend to migrate toward their own talents , singling out works and musicians who’s music they may learn and enjoy. Thus, being a Soprano, my interest leans heavily toward the SOPRANO SOPRACUTO which is the highest possible soprano. Bel Canto is pre-eminently Italian , " ART OF BEAUTIFUL SINGING " which is demonstrated by Ms Battle so eloquently. So if you share a fondness for this musical gender, Kathleen Battles’ recordings are a must. Kathleen Battle at Carnegie Hall, Pleasures of Their Company the Salzburg Recital and Baroque Duet are a few of my favorites. I own twenty of her Cd’s..... so there is an infinite variety of excellent scores to choose from such as Bach, Handel, Mozart, Mendelssohn ,Richard Strauss, Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini, Stradella, Purcell, Obradors, Head, Bishop and Spirituals . If music be the food of love, Sing on, sing on, sing on, Sing on till I am filled with joy; ( Colonel Heveningham ) Some years ago ,I attending one of Ms. Battles’ concerts in Vancouver, British Columbia. It was without a doubt the most ethereal musical event I have ever attended. After six standing ovations, I still, sat on the edge of my seat unconsciously begging to hear …JUST ONE MORE GOLDEN NOTE…. . Alas, SWING LOW SWEET CHARIOT ... came to carry her home… ending the undying applause. Upon leaving the concert hall, I met up with a pianist/ choral director who questioned, , " Did you hear that high note ". Oh , yes ", I replied. " And how about the diction in that last song ", he raved. I was about to express my SINCERE ADULATIONS when he abruptly continued. " Wasn’t she awful " ?????
