Brightman is a shooting star who's CROSSOVER VELOCITY seems to be gathering speed. Her latest release, " La Luna ", displays an illuminating musical mystique.
Ms. Brightman was LITERALLY ,inspired by the folklore and myths about a lost child taken away by evil and a poor young girl, who begged the heavens for help and saw the stars turning into coins which fell into her apron.(www.geocities.com/Broadway/8448) Soothsayer, futurist or possibly real live star shine has contributed to this eclectic singers' journey, of being lost and now found. She knows in which direction she is headed. Sarah Brightman just might be the only performer, who has unraveled the musical threads of time and space AND landed with her feet on the ground. She is heralded as THEE sequential CROSSOVER STAR of the new millennium. Pop, Rock, Classical, New Age, Contemporary ... They're all included in her twenty , capricious recordings. If I had to choose favorites, I might include, " TIMELESS " and " EDEN " for easy listening. " LA LUNA ", the video for the most fantastical trip of a lifetime and " THE SONGS THAT GOT AWAY " for simplicity and beauty of voice. ( http://www.xs4all.nl/~josvg/cits/sarahbr... It is always hard to review New Age talents due to the complex vocal qualities which each possesses. A classical purist is faced with the task of treating artists and music as fairly as possible. Brightman's musical talents are as fresh and vibrant as a Spring morning. Her voice rings echoes of the Meadowlark's sweet vibrating warble. It is indeed lovely. However Classical training does cause the term, technique to meander through the mind. As a New Age singer, does it really matter if her vocal attributes are perfectly online for the canvass' of Opera ? ... NO, I think not! It is best to salute the beauty of repertoire, step into the magic of the looking glass and just appreciate the artistry. Ms. Brightman seems to parlay between musical worlds which don't always suit her diminutive voice. " A Whiter Shade of Pale ", which was issued as a disco dance CD, just prompted the possibility of a crash landing in my mind. However, the newer generation probably understands the scratch and disconnected radio activity that is included on the album.
