VOICES OF SPRING : ANDREA BOCELLI

© Roslind M. Sherman

" Music is a moral law. It gives a soul to the universe , wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, gaiety and life to everything. It is the essence of order and leads to all that is good, just and beautiful, of which it is the invisible, but nevertheless dazzling, passionate and eternal in form ". ... PLATO

Have you ever drifted aimlessly throughout the day, indulging nature and admiring the festival of God's work? Today, I ,silently discovered TWO, stunning Cardinals, male and female, balancing, harmoniously upon the slender branches of a tree.

The mourning wind whipped the tiny creatures, as if in a reverie of dance . In an instant, the breath dissapated like a fragmented symphony, echoing throughout the everglades of palmtrees, weeds and mud.

For awhile, I was caught within a warp of dissonance, stirred by the sight of vulchers gliding across the sky like some omnipotent, majestic birds.... which of course they are not.

Today, ALL is calm and emollient with fragrances, ( mostly because I lit some incense ), but really, it's illuminating, to listen to Andrea Bocelli sing from his " SACRED ARIAS " CD.

Bocelli has transcended the mediocre reality of classical music and introduced his own spiritual continuity into the world of song.

I am literally in AWE. His soothing voice makes it is so easy to flutter into another time... Not to mention that technically, the producers and recording engineers have successfully created one of the most ethereal balanced albums, I have ever heard.

" AVE MARIA ", is the most celebrated song title in the history of classics. Composers such as Gounod,( my favorite ) Schubert and Mascagni, have literally canonized the words " Hail Mary " ,with unforgettable music.

Caccini's , Ave Maria , was all but forgotten , until Mr. Bocelli redeemed it's anima on this very special recording.

Andrea Bocelli's passionate singing is like stardust, weaving it's way onto the staircases of heaven. The haunting beauty of " PIETA SIGNORE ", just might bring you to your knees. So be prepared.

This masterpiece is available in a collection of , " Twenty-Four Italian Songs And Arias ", from the Schirmer's Library of Musical Classics. It is best suited for the mezzo-soprano, alto and tenor voices.

Also imprinted on the Cd is " PANIS ANGELICUS ",a celestial melody that nurtures the listener into an embracing reverence . The album is just simply filled with the most humbling songs of praise.
