In the diary of PRE-BIRTH, we are cocooned within the mother. Although we do not know exactly how music effects the unborn fetus, we do know that from the moment of conception the fetus is conditioned to rhythm through the mother's heartbeat. Boom-Boom-, Boom-bo ... SWISH. There are watery, hummy patterns and echoes of movement and sound, known only to the unborn babe. It is what I call, the , " FETAL MUSICAL SHERE ". By three months, an unborn child can hear and evolves into his or her own rhythmic movement. From a musical point of view, if the expectant mother sings, hums or listens to harmonically balanced music it could greatly stimulate and relax them both. Recent studies suggest that pre-natal babies respond negatively to disturbing musical stimulation such as loud rock, shrill tones, rap and dissonant interval outside the womb. Infact there is concern that this may be a contributing factor to hyperactivity. " The Secret Life of the Unborn Child " written by Dr, Thomas Verny is a facinating journey into the pycological understanding and research on this subject. It should be available in most reputable book stores. Toronto, Psycologist, Sandra Trehub,says , that " the brain seems to be a sponge for music and like sponges in water, is changed " by the type of music heard. Her studies on tonal and atonal music also seem to be infavour of listening and singing, harmonically balanced sounds for a calm, happy fetus and newborn. So this little child floats in the fluid of the ambiotic sac, swallows, cries, sucks the thumb, kicks and yes, HICCUPS thus creating his/her own sense of rhythm or music. Also , remember that this tiny being is very aware of vibration. If the mother is active, nervous, jittery, crying or laughing, all is felt and transmitted... " Go to sleep ",coos mom ,as she rubs her tummy. This vibrational music is a natural therapy. Ta-ta ta-ta, Pppppp, mmmmmmmm. A mothers' words and emotions are quite literally hummed into the fetus' bones . Music's positive contributions to both mother and child during the pre-birth period are extraordinarily immense. So don't leave birth without it, MOM. Arthur Rubinstein and Yehudi Menuhin are two world famous artist, who were convinced that their musical interests were awakened in the womb. Who nows ... You could be carrying the next Mozart, Beethoven,Bach or Handel. |
