Humphrey Bogart and Mike Myers Have Something in CommonMyers stars as Charlie, a jazz poet who considers the concept of marriage as scary as a shark attack. It's classic Myers as he pontificates about love and loss in a hilarious poem set to Jazz with a Beatnik backdrop. He complains she was a klepto in verse, then adds, "I still can't find my cat". Myers also plays a variety of rolls in the movie, most amusing of which is that of his father, an old Scottish curmudgeon with a sharp tongue who calls his other son, "Head" because of his large cranium. The plot finds Charlie, alone and depressed after yet another breakup. Until he meets Harriet, that is. Harriet, played magnificently by Nancy Travis, is the perfect girl for Charlie. They meet at a Meat Shop, where she's employed as a butcher, and its love at first sight. All goes well until Charlie begins to suspect she may be a serial axe-murderer. Hilarity ensues. Look for a standout performance by Amanda Plummer as Harriet's slightly off-key sister. This movie is full of golden moments, and a perfect chance to see Myers' considerable talents shine when he was trying to make a name for himself in Hollywood.
