Franz’s health continued to decline, and he spent much of his later years at sanatoriums and health resorts. He died on June 3, 1924, a month before his 41st birthday. He is buried at the Jewish Cemetery in Prague. Although Franz instructed his friend to destroy all of his unpublished writing, Max Brod ignored the request. He published the manuscripts, which included The Trial(1925), The Castle(1926) and Amerika(1927). Franz was outlived by each member of his family, although his death was much kinder than those of his three sisters who died in Nazi concentration camps.
