The Color PurpleThere's also the side story, just as important, about the relationship between blacks and whites and the lack of understanding or consideration between the two. Nettie's time in Africa also illustrates the conflicts between different groups of blacks (the Africans who stayed in Africa and the ones who were sold) as well as the encroachment of the British Empire into Africa.
