We must continue to speak freely about our experiences with breast cancer, in addition to other life-threatening diseases, so that we can work to prevent them. Though a cure for cancer would be a wonderful thing, it would be even better if no woman ever became ill because she was afraid to, or hadn't even thought of doing, a self-exam.
Just as the experiences that classic actresses had with breast cancer in the past mirror the repression of society in those years, the openness of today's actresses and other public figures show the hope that we all have of some day living in a world where breast cancer does not kill. Isn't it worth talking about just for that reason alone? That's why the 3-Day was an important journey for me, because the freedom we have in our society to discuss breast cancer helped my mom to save her own life.
