The Chaffers/Waterdeep

I finally made it to another concert, and no, I didn't bring my camera. I read about Waterdeep coming to Westport (suburban Kansas City), Missouri on the 27th of December, in Christian Happenings magazine (see links). My wife agreed to come with me. I like it when I can share stuff I like with her. Besides, she likes to drive and she knows her way around that part of the Kansas City metro area. Within a couple days of the concert, I still didn't know what to expect. New Earth Coffeehouse's (see links) website said Waterdeep would be performing both Friday and Saturday nights. One show would be an acoustic version and the other, a full blown rock show. Wife was hoping for acoustic, and I would have preferred rock. For my Wife's enjoyment, however, and future concert attendence, I hoped Friday night would be the acoustic show.

I thought the show started at 7:00, so we left Warrensburg at around 5:20 to arrive and take our place in line by about 6:50. I was wrong. After getting a flyer inside, I spotted that the doors open at 7:30. We didn't come from very far away, since the groups behind us in line drove and flew from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and St. Paul, Minnesota, just for the show. They planned to stay over and see Saturday night's show as well. The wait was cold and breezy. We had fun talking. Most line-takers wondered when the doors would open, but I didn't detect any anger over it. Attitudes were great! The doors opened a few minutes late, and the heat was welcome.

New Earth Coffeehouse features a concert hall upstairs in the old church's sanctuary, while the basement's fellowship hall is converted into a coffeehouse. It's a beautiful building. We waited around a while, and the first artist was finally introduced. I didn't have my watch, so I can't really tell you how late the show started rolling.

Carrie Womack was great. I'd describe her music as folksy, with a slight alternative sound. If she had a CD, she could have sold at least one! Most of her songs started out about problems with life in general, and they ended up with Jesus being the answer. Between songs her humor got smiles out of me. She even provided practical reminders. Like Romans 13 and Titus 3 say: Thou shalt not exceed legal speed limits, nor shalt thou park in handicapped parking slots, even if thou only runnest in for a paper, nor shalt thou turn without using thy signal lights amply in advance of thy turn... (Well, maybe she didn't say it just like that, but she DID cover proper use of signal-lights!) If you're reading this, how'd the boyfriend auditions go? I could listen to Carrie Womack lots more.
