I Have Err'd!

This article started out with the intent of bringing you an edgy, fringe sort of sound. While I was trying to define the sound and list artists, I ran into too many snags. They're NOT all old-timers in the genre. They're NOT all indies or on small or private labels. They're NOT all fringe artists, nor are they living legends. They're NOT all folksy or progressive, nor do they all sing on controversial topics. I err'd! I can't find a linking factor. That sort of invalidated the 200+ words I already had written.

While I tried to think how to tie the article together, my mind wandered as it's apt to do. "I wish I still had that Resurrection Band tape. I think I'd like to hear it again."

I have err'd! We're not to store up treasures here on Earth, yet, sometimes, it'd be fun to have the foresight or even room to keep old stuff. My dad wishes he'd kept his 1947 Indian Commander. I wish I'd been able to keep my old '62 Tempest, '66 F-85, '69 Wildcat, '65 Newport, '73 Mustang Grande, and '73 Beetle. But, it wasn't to be. They'd have probably ended up as lawn ornaments, and rural Missouri doesn't need that stereotype fueled any more than it already is. Before I got serious about my Christian music quest, I gave away too much stuff I didn't really like --then.

Near the end of 2002, I got a copy of Guardian's Bottle Rocket because I'd read their sound had changed over the years. They've got a hard alternative sound. It's a welcome departure from their Miracle Mile album's big hair and spandex '80s metal sound. I thought I'd given away Miracle Mile as well, but I found it in a cabinet while cleaning, or sorting stuff. I know I gave away a Stryper, and a White Cross album. They'd be nice to have on hand as examples. Another one I gave away came back to me, so I tried to give it away again. So far it's not been returned. I still don't regret losing the Insyders' Skalleluia. What they did was to take lots of CCM hits and even hymns and convert them to a ska/punk sound. I really don't like that sound, though I still smile when I hear any version of "Lord I Lift Your Name on High." Several books revealed that Resurrection Band, or Rez Band for short, was one of the pioneer rockers. I lost a copy of the Resurrection Band's first album, Awaiting Your Reply (on cassette), because I didn't really like the Grace Slick/Starship sound and didn't take very good care of it. I finally found it a couple months ago. The great thing about errors like all these is that their impact is temporary.
