Kent Hamilton introduced me to a new band from the Columbus, GA and Phenix City, AL, area, who's touring the southeastern states of the USA. Caleb's Walk,
My son sings and plays about any instrument he can pick up, and some that he can't (harp and piano). He can carry a tune quite well, and plays like I only wish I could have learned. I still fuss at him about his slurred and nasal sound. He sounds so much better when he doesn't try to sound "emotional". That, however, is only my opinion. My son's quick to point out lots of popular pros who do just what he does. I happen not to particularly care for their vocal styles, either. There are, apparently, many people that this style doesn't bother. I suppose Bob Dylan did manage to sell a few albums. Kent's slightly slurred and nasal vocal style doesn't in the least detract from the clarity of the lyrics. And yes, they're nearly clear enough to understand with no printed help at all. Granted, I only heard one song, so that's all I've got to base the opinion on. The instrumentals were acoustic-based soft rock. The guitar, bass and drums all came through clearly enough to hear 'em all. The song's message was clear, scriptural, and not full of cliches, like lots of other Christian music. If the sounds I heard were at the light end of the band's spectrum, I'd be tempted to buy their stuff. I would like to hear more, but will likely have to wait until the second quarter of 2003. That's when they're planning on having their CD out. The band's website, is new, too. There's not much information available, but I liked the bios. Here're comments for the band. Go To Page: 1 2
