Secular Rock's Not THAT Bad'All those people who condemn Korn, Metallica and the like, and then get in their cars and turn on their country music bug me. Secular rock music doesn't make everyone go nuts or turn into an animal. I like it, and it's really not satanic. I give it a healthy mix with P.O.D., Pax217 [and so on]...' was expressed to me at church a while back. I asked if Korn, Metallica and the guy's other secular stuff promoted or condoned immorality, violence or other ungodly things. He hesitated a bit, then admitted, 'Well, yeah, some of it sorta does.' The fact that someone is a hypocrite doesn't justify hypocrasy in yourself. Just because you can't find your exact sound in Christian music doesn't justify the message of the anti-Christ. The conversation went on, and I listened as it progressed. MTV, VH1 and music videos crept into the conversation and God all but left as a discussion topic. It drifted into Britney Spears and Madonna and how they flaunt sex in their acts. I even heard a comment to the effect of, 'But, hey, she looks good.' The girl who was conversing asked, "How'd we get into this?" I looked at the metalhead and pointed out how worldly thought can easily get even re-born Christians to dwell on un-Christian things. I knew I was really secular-lyric-ignorant, so when I got home, I got onto Google.com and did a bit of searching. I don't want to be accused of simply hearing some horror-stories and running into a writing rant. I did a few searches for lyrics of Korn and Metallica. (I used getlyrics.com and lyrics.com. Lyrics.com was downright irritating with pop-up ads and downloads. Getlyrics.com was only a little less irritating.) I must admit that I didn't find any (not saying there aren't any) obvious statements like, "I follow Satan," or "Satanism is the only way." What I found was a message of gloom and despair, and blatant bad-mouthing of "followers of the cross," and so on. Much of it was expressed in adolescent shock-language. Real adults can articulate thoughts without cussing. If you're Christian, you certainly wouldn't pick this stuff to sing for your music special on Easter Sunday morning. Being known to be a Christian and known to be a listener of such secular music can be a tremendous stumbling block for others. After looking at those lyrics, I remembered a rumor I'd heard, that Alice Cooper had gone Christian. I scraped the surface on that one. If I dig deeper, I might find different info, but what I found was surprising. The search was based on "alice+cooper+christian". I read a few articles from both Christian and secular sources. Both confirm the rumor, so I went to another site which claimed to be the official Alice Cooper website: whatever official means. Alicecoopershow.com certainly didn't flaunt any Christianity, but it wasn't what I'd call evil. Alice's bio didn't mention Christianity, but held high all his shock-showmanship. I didn't find Christianity there, so I looked up some of his lyrics.
