July, '05 Update

Autographs were fun. I got three of their CDs, and asked the girls to sign whichever was their favorite. All three, almost-desperately, went to their self-titled CD to sign. Later, I ran across the drummer and another guitarist, and when asked about autographs, they said, "No, this is all about the girls." I sort of thought they were part of the band, too. Oh well.

All three Everlife CDs are great, but their latest is most like their present sound, and it's heaviest. They did one accapella song at the concert. It was beautiful and powerful. My only disappointment in the CDs is that song isn't on any of 'em. I like this group, and am anxiously awaiting their next CD.

Now I'll make a concession. If you like Zoegirl's Different Kind Of FREE, but not really their earlier albums, you'll love Everlife. [5]

I prowled the merchant area until I found Circleslide's table. I'd been saving CD money for them, in case they sounded intriguing. I talked to the guy at the table, and asked him what sort of sound I could expect from Circleslide. He said, "Rock." I smiled, after having just talked to the Everlife bunch, and asked what kind. He pondered and said, "Rock." The lady who was unpacking stuff looked up and agreed with the "rock" assessment. I pressed a bit and the guy insisted, "rock." The lady, who might have been getting a bit frustrated at my pressure, finally said, "Americana?" I replied, "Ah! Terry Taylor, Lost Dogs, Daniel Amos." Then the guy's eyes lit up! He eagerly spoke up, "and The Choir. Oh wow! Usually people don't know anything but "rock", when I try to describe our sound." I asked if "Circleslide" wasn't a Choir album or song title, and they said, "Both." "The guy" was Tim, the bass player, and "the lady," Debbie, was wife of Gabriel, the lead singer/guitarist.

Tim told me that a copy of their music found its way to Steve Hindalong's ears. Steve (drummer/singer/writer for The Choir) telephoned Circleslide, and when the band figured out who it was, thought, "This could be really good; or this could be really really bad." Steve might have liked what he heard, but the band did use "Circleslide" as their name, without prior permission. It turned out that Steve wanted to produce their work! That's a neat endorsement for a young band's music. Tim
