Crossover #7Hah! Night security --They thought they'd keep me out of sight, huh? We unloaded and loaded band trailers. We put equipment in place on stage. We directed folks to where they wanted to go. I even got change for one of the merchants, rescued a lost vehicle a little guy pushed under the fence (I told him to drive more carefully next time). I got to look imposing as I approached the abandoned booth at the back of the bleachers. The kids scattered as they began to realize I was coming. One merchant said he was overloaded with indie-reviews, and was having to turn lots of them away. I said to send 'em my way. He said he would, but I can't seem to find his card. It was fun to meet band members and road crew folks while helping them get ready for and tear down after their shows. It was fun to help some of the merchants with their set-ups, as well. For the most part, it was like a big family working together. That's the way Christians are supposed to be. If you get a chance to work as a volunteer at a concert, do it! I don't have the space here to describe all the bands that played, but here's a list of who were scheduled: Thursday: Mark Collum and Empyreal, Caleb Rowden, Aimee Flanders, Newsong. I couldn't tell you which ones didn't play due to weather, but we heard the end of Aimee Flanders, and got to see Newsong. We saw Mark Collum, but I know I didn't hear him sing. Friday: Prizefighter, Matthew West, Building 429, Kainos, Toby Mac. Matthew West started things off, so I'm guessing Prizefighter had to cancel for some reason. Saturday: Lyrycyst, ApologetiX, Everlife, By the Tree, Ken Davis, Circleslide, Jeremy Camp. Everybody played as scheduled Saturday. Some artist attitudes impressed me. Toby Mac's drummer was really friendly, and Building 429, Everlife, Circleslide, and Kainos came across as real people --in otherwords, they treated the volunteers like friends and family and not mere peasants. Lyrycyst and his crew were quite friendly, too. Then again, we have the same church home. A few bands warrant special musical attention, so more in-depth commentary will follow over the next few weeks.
