Letter to Friends

Greetings Friends,

I know some of you think this whole Christianity thing is just made-up junk. It's a crutch for the weak. It's too intolerant to be divine. It's OK for some, but, just as a social club. The Church is just a bunch of hypocrites. Some think we all gotta believe something --anything, as long as we're sincere about it. Some of you have told me you don't fear Hell because Jesus never really spoke of it in the Bible. It's, therefore, a made-up thing, just like there being only one way to God. Some say, "Jesus never claimed to be God, so this whole Christianity-thing is a farce." Some of you say, "God's a loving God, and He won't let any of mankind see eternal punishment."

What inspired this article was Third Day's "Creed". Many Christian denominations claim they follow no creed that's not in the Bible. Some get downright testy at the mere mention of the Apostles' Creed. Granted, the Apostles' Creed isn't in the Bible, but everything it claims is. I believe the Apostles' Creed, but it doesn't go quite far enough.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy Christian Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and life everlasting. AMEN.

What the Apostles' Creed leaves out is that Jesus IS God; He is co-equal and co-eternal with God the Father; the Bible IS God's Word; there really IS only one way to eternal life with God. The alternative is eternal torment in Hell. I'm not condemning anyone for believing differently. That's not my job, and the right to choose any belief system is a God-given choice.

I've got a theory that only reason people who have heard the Gospel, and know they need to accept Jesus to be right with God, but don't do it, are resisting out of selfishness. Too often they say there's no proof. There's evidence all over the place (literally) that the Bible of the Christians speaks the One True God's Holy Truth.
