Rock Music?...Not What God Likes: Pt IImusic, for the most part, doesn't have an appearance of evil, nor does its participants. God's Word doesn't warn against music, nor even "strong" music. What does evil look like? What does it sound like? Think really hard on this, and consider lots of options. In Genesis, Evil was in the form of a serpent. What's a serpent? Look through old animal books, particularly those with illustrations from centuries back. Not all "serpents" look like what we call snakes. But God condemned the serpent thusly: "upon your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat..." (RSV). Does that mean all snakes are evil? Does Satan always look like a snake? I think not. Lots of stuff goes on its belly, and the snakes I've heard of are predators and not eaters of dust. If evil had an appearance we could put our finger on, or always sounded the same, it'd be great! We'd always know the right decisions to make. Discernment wouldn't be a gift at all. Knowing good from evil would be simple common sense, like knowing wet or dry, hot or cold, light or dark, and so on. We must look beyond sensual (dealing with the senses! Sensual doesn't always deal with sex.) appearance to the message that's being communicated. There's quite a difference between most secular rock music and Christian rock music. They're not the same bashable thing. Weigh all the evidence. Think before you condemn! Whoa! Wait a minute! This just in! Most pictures of the devil depict him as red. The background of the Nazi German flag is red. Blood, a symbol of violence, is red. An indication of an alcohol hangover is red eyes. Communists are often called "Reds". To be in debt is to be "in the red". Wow! This evidence is overwhelming. Red IS evil! Join me, brothers and sisters, on our crusade against red!
