Rock Music?...Not What God Likes: Pt II

Let's look at some charges against rock music. Rock music causes anti-social behavior. Rock music kills houseplants. It alters brainwaves. It's devil music. It'll make you do drugs, have uncontrollable sex and turn you into a satanist, or at least away from God. Rock music causes violence, and it'll make you commit suicide, run away from home, and any of a multitude of other un-civil behaviors. It sure would have been nice to have been raised before the late 1940s --before rock music began taking its form --you know, back before there was evil.

Far too much of the "evidence" is anonymous in its source. Have the scientists substituted any other sorts of music into their experiments? Does heavy and intense classical music used against soft rock yield the same anti-rock results on plants as is claimed? Does anything other than rock music (country music, violent movies, liberal educational institutions, for instance) cause any of the above misbehaviors? Does, perhaps, boredom also cause drug abuse? Does jet engine noise, bright lights, brilliant colors, or other stuff alter brainwaves? Could a swimsuit issue of a magazine or seeing too-tight clothing make someone think sexual thoughts?

Rock music can be, and likely has been a factor in all of the above claims. BUT, they're claims. They're also faulty because they imply rock music is the culprit, not merely a contributing factor like it really is. (My theory is that the real culprit, aside from Satan, is post-World War II affluence. Money, and time on one's hands spawns thoughts of ways out of boredom --but I'll not go into all that here.) Like "them", I said "rock music" without specifying a type of rock music.

Avoid all appearance of evil, hence, avoid rock music. This assumes rock music has an appearance of evil. Specifically what appears evil about Christian rock music? This evil appearance of rock music doesn't come close to my reasons for giving up my beer-drinking for its stumbling-block appearance. (By the way the drinking-thing was a decision on my part, after getting into Christian rock, as was tobacco cessation and my no-porn policy. I'm a living testimony to what Christian rock can contribute to. Ask anyone who knew me before the '90s!) The Bible clearly says to avoid strong drink, and to not become drunk. Alcohol and a possible "appearance of evil" is obvious, but not so with music. To me, Christian rock music,
