How Many More Shopping Days 'Til Christmas?

First, I hope this article isn't a stumbling block for you. I know Christmas was scheduled to coincide with a pagan holiday, but that was to more easily spread the Gospel. I know Christmas has become a greed-holiday for many, if not most. But if you remember that its intent is to commemorate God's gift to mankind --the birth of Jesus, and really strive to keep that in mind, the other little drawbacks aren't so bold and bad. The gifts you give can help maintain that focus throughout the year.

Try to guess what my gift-recommendation will be... No, it's not ties for guys and pearls for girls. OK, I'll end your suspense. It's music! I thought it was time I browsed my collection and gave you my most-recommended artists and albums. (And don't forget to shop Suite101.com's affiliates, through our Co-Op store.)

On my first time through the collection, I wrote down 16 bands/artists, with 25 CDs. I thought that'd be a bit expensive to present as a Christmas-shopping list. I narrowed it down to ten.

First, we'll select one of the five ApologetiX CDs from the original list. I started my collection with Radical History Tour, so that's the one I'll recommend. With Audio Adrenaline, we'll pick one, too, which might be difficult, since I really like Some Kind of Zombie and Underdog. Like with the ApologetiX selection, we'll go with the first one I got. My first Audio Adrenaline CD was Bloom. Just for the sake of having something bizarre in your collection, you need to pick out one Danielson Famile CD. Now we've got three on the list: a parody CD, a power-pop CD, and a totally bizarre one.

The next two artists are rather unique. Larry Norman is called the father of Christian rock, so you naturally have to have the first Christian rock album on your list. It's his 1969 Upon This Rock. The trouble with that, is it doesn't include "Why Should the Devil Have All the Good Music?", so you'll need to add his 1972 Only Visiting This Planet. They're still available at his website, or, better yet, order them through Christian Book Distributers in Suite101's Co-op store. I don't intend any offense to any other artists, but I couldn't choose only one Ginny Owens CD. You'll have to put both Without Condition and Something More on your list. Sorry, but that's just the way it is. So now we've added real classic rock, and a most-excellent female vocalist to the mix.
