September '03 UpdateMentions
Like with the last street concert I attended, I was most impressed! I e-mailed Hot Dogs for Jesus (H.D.J. Ministries) to ask more about their ministry, and Sandy e-mailed me back with a statement of faith, and to tell me to simply write what I saw. Hot Dogs for Jesus (HD4J) is a Bible-based traveling ministry out of Franklin, Missouri, which provides free hotdogs and drinks, along with witnessing and tracts in conjunction with presenting great Christian music. Pastor Jerry (HD4J front-man) called and filled me in on a few other bits of ministry-trivia. I hope I get the years right, because my notes were a bit jumbled. Hotdogs started as a street ministry. A friend of Jerry's played guitar, while Jerry handed out Bibles outside a college building. This went on for about three years, and God told Jerry to go the hotdogs, refreshments and concerts route. Hotdogs for Jesus started four years ago at a Boonville concert where 120 hotdogs were served, and 75 people were saved. I asked Jerry how someone goes about getting a Hotdogs show. He said he usually selects the towns to which he ministers by way of prayer. He then drives around the town to select a spot, praying for the right answer (casing the joint, so to speak). He makes all the arrangements, and even lines up the bands. So far, they've ministered in Missouri and Iowa, and their concert season runs from April through September. What I saw with HD4J, the bands, and even the people in the crowd, were a bunch of warm, friendly people with Jesus in their hearts and in their actions. You've read about Inner Flame before, and they were one of the bands that drew me to the concert. The other was Empty Tomb, whom I'd heard about for years, but not gotten to see. C.O.D. (Children of Deliverance): As you might know, I'm a rap-skeptic. I've got a pre-conceived notion that I'm not going to like it, but it's not so strong that I won't listen first. (It hasn't always been like that.) C.O.D. raps out a clear powerful message, and they're clearly on Jesus's side! Their sound is laid-back and very friendly. If you've got rap-fans you want to reach,
