Master's Touch #1

Some time in June, I think, I caught wind of preparations for an up-coming concert to be put on by my local Christian bookstore (Master's Touch in Warrensburg, MO). I'd been talking to a few area bands since writing this topic, so I made some recommendations and gave the planner, Diane Weir, e-mail addresses and URLs. Although I didn't know what they were getting, other than what the band's website said, I was still glad Diane used the info I gave her. One of "my" bands said, "Yes."

"My" band offered their sound system when they heard Diane hadn't found one yet. They also recommended another band who accepted Diane's invite, while offering their even-bigger system and operation for the whole day. I couldn't come close to mentioning all the trials and frustrations Diane had. To mention a few: One band accepted an invite, only to have their non-Christian beliefs revealed, leaving Diane with saying the awkward, "Sorry, we can't use you." Only within days of the event was a stage (flatbed trailer) secured. The insurance cost almost cancelled the concert. Needless to say, but I'll do it anyway, she, with the help of lots of prayer, did a fine job! The second time ought to even go more smoothly.

I made occasional visits to the store, and one time, I overheard that there might be trouble with lodging. I offered my house (before coordinating with my wife), and the offer was taken. I heard, "four" when the offer was made, then six when the band took me up on it. If any of you get a chance to lodge a travelling Christian band, DO IT!

Having members of Overflow and pastor Rob's wife and daughters stay over was like having family drop in, though we'd never met, aside from a few e-mails. They got in around 12:30 in the morning, but we stayed up talking until 2:00, when we made ourselves go to bed. We woke in the morning a little after 6:00 --except for Michael, whom we had to wake with some Hokus Pick ("I'm So Happy"). If Overflow ever comes to your town in the morning, have coffee ready for Michael. He seemed to like it, and mentioned it a few times throughout the course of the day.

Overflow followed me to the site, and began setting up the sound-system. I left to help Diane's husband, Al, with chairs. We got back to the concert site and started setting up the chairs. Several others joined in, making quick work of the seating. Others set up the stage and merchants began lining the sidewalks. Lots of other stuff went on and after some technical delays, things were ready to go.
