August '03 Updatefairly hard sell on hip-hop/rap, so I guess I started out with a bad attitude toward Souljahz. They had no band, so they started warming up to pre-recorded accompaniment --not a good first impression. OK, they said they had such short notice that the band couldn't make it. I still had to wonder, since I'd known of their scheduled appearance for several weeks prior. Despite all that, and the overly heavy subwoofer sound like from those irritating cars, their performance changed my attitude toward Souljahz. Souljahz had a most-excellent rapport with the audience. I think I even clapped along from time to time. They got me smiling, and I think I could even find myself going to see Souljahz again, even if they were the only band. Again, my wife had a most-appropriate comment. She said, "You could really like their concert, even without liking their style of music." I started off listening to Souljahz with a nasty skepticism about what I was going to hear, and ended up quite impressed with their show --and telling the world about it here. Here's some trivia: the fourth Souljah is Kyle Miller. I'd have never known that had I not been to Ultimate Storm Invasion. My third reason for coming to Ultimate Storm Invasion, aside from enjoying it last year, was the last band up. ApologetiX, or maybe the audience response, wow'd me again. It was all but dark by their showtime, and throughout their performance silhouettes of waving arms, dancing, jumping, and general good-times accompanied the music. ApologetiX makes it worth waiting until the end of a concert, rather than to try to beat the traffic. Here are two bits of trivia that I found to be fun. About mid-show, God gave us a natural demonstration of his wonders. He made us a pillar of foam out of the Foam Dance Party (or that's what the attendant thought it was called). A small whirlwind settled on the game and sucked the soap suds out and swirled them way up in the air. The whirlwind also lifted a shade pavilion a foot or so and dumped it on its side. Most of us who were near that game just watched in awe. It was a great thing to see. The other bit of trivia is that my wife and I "almost" got to give Souljahz a ride to the Kansas City Airport. I thought that would
