I've got to thank quite a few people who made our trip to Crossover 2003 possible. First, my wife said, 'Let's go for it,' when I pondered attending Crossover. I like it when we do stuff together. It was convenient for time off, since I managed to build up lots of comp-time. I've also got to thank Jean and Lark who covered most of my duties on Friday, and Karen who felt my other duties could wait until Monday. Debbie, also at the library, bought tickets and found she couldn't go. She asked if I could find someone who could use the tickets. I didn't think it'd be trouble, since I talk to quite a few of the youth at church about music. My daughter, however, found out I had the extra tickets and decided she'd go after all. And I've got to thank Mary who let my daughter off a bit early so we could get on the road in time for the night's festivities.
I used my comp-day to get our lawn mowed, since I'd not have my usual weekend. The grass was also getting long enough to need raking if the mowing was put off. I started mowing around 9:45 Friday morning and got finished at a bit after 3:00. I just started cooling off when my wife and daughter got home. I showered fast, and we got on the road at around 4:00. After two hours of driving, we checked in to our motel (a most pleasant night at Osage Beach Scottish Inn). We arrived in our room and looked, then looked again, and concluded we'd left the tickets at home. We weighed alternatives for a bit, then decided we'd go back and get them, rather than buy more at the at-the-gate prices. My wife offered to go home for the tickets. This meant skipping Friday night's music, but I had a great evening of quality-time with my daughter at pool-side. After the swim, we walked to a grocery store about a mile from the motel for some soda and munchies with which we'd watch the History and Weather Channels back in the room. My wife got back a bit before 11:00, and she rushed to get into the pool before its closing time. The next morning, my wife looked out of the window and thought the van down below looked an awful lot like the van of some friends from church. As usual, she was right, and our friends were leaving their room at about the same time we were. They got to experience Friday night. They said it was great!
