J2K - Jesus 2000J2K - Jesus 2000 works together to bring a number of gifted urban gospel artists, including Kim Burrell, Men of Standard, Anointed, Nancey Jackson, Lamar Campbell, Spirit of Praise, Felicia Darrett, Commissioned, Dawkins & Dawkins, and Monica Thomas. This outstanding album features contemplative to mid-tempo songs with driving influences of soul-pop and funk. All of the songs in the album are written by arranger, songwriter, vocalist, and producer Montrel Darrett. This is a great CD for the saints and Montrel makes no mistake in demonstrating that fact with several cuts which display his lead vocals “Save a Seat”, “Prophetic Millenium 2000”, which is really cutting-edge, hip-hop Gospel, and “Chronicles of the Soul” . The recurrent theme of J2K is predominantly about loving God, our fellow man and our significant others (husbands, wives and children) – which as CCM’s 4 Him puts it is the “Basics of Life”. . Many powerful performances are turned in by Anointed's soul-pop “Help Him Stand”. If you happen to like both genres of Christian music (Gospel and CCM) then you’ll like this cut, and Commissioned, on "Before It All Falls Down," brings a melodic plea for individuals to come to Jesus while they can. Burrell's "Woman," which captures her jazzy vocal style and soulful passion in this song about “The woman caught in adultery who Jesus refused to condemn. Kim’s is joined by Montrel for this song whose aim is to love and minister to those in “the body” who have fallen in this area. Additional songs include Jackson's "Praise Awaits," is an urban praise flavored with the essence of church and provides her fans with everything from vocal range, diction, agility, intensity, and variety. Lastly, the trio of Felicia Darrett, Monica Thomas, and Marcia Sumrall, who deliver a stirring rendition of "Draw Me Closer." Lamar Campbell & Spirit of Praise with K.D. Bowe provide a hard-hitting urban cut “Reign” which talks about who we are as God’s people and what we are called to do, not allowing the enemy to stop our progression but to keep looking up. It’s next-level spiritual warfare – urban-style. Another cut that doesn’t disappoint is “Enough Said” from brothers Dawkins & Dawkins “Truth will make the world free, but LOVE makes them believe”. If J2K’s mission is to exhort us on the paramount importance of winning our world through “Love” - mission accomplished with Men of Standard's “Love” and songs like this – “Enough Said”. Additionally, J2K meets the challenge with Cynthia Pasley for the cut, “Kind of Man God Loves” which is a duet with Eric Dawkins and deals with marriage relationships.
