Vanessa Bell Armstrong


Vanessa Bell Armstrong was born in the city of Detroit and raised in the Church of God which has also nurtured other gospel greats like Andre Crouch, Walter and Tramaine Hawkins, BeBe & CeCe Winans, The Clark Sisters, Edwin, and many others. Her music touches the spirit and the Lord has truly annointed Vanessa Bell Armstrong and her voice. She is the most versatile vocalist of any gospel singer. Her voice has the uniqueness that Mahalia Jackson had. No one sounds or sings quite like she does. She has a unique style similar to that of Aretha Franklin and has been belting out R&B-flavored Contemporary gospel since the '80's. Vanessa Bell Armstrong got her start working with Dr. Mattie Moss Clark. She has since gone on to work in both gospel and secular music.

Additionally, Vanessa Bell Armstrong did the theme song for the television series Amen.. She's recorded Urban Contemporary ballads, and lyrics for Jive, and done gospel for Muscle Shoals Sound Gospel and Onyx. Her albums include Something on the Inside (1993) and The Secret is Out (1995). Three years later, she released her first live album, Desire of My Heart:Live in Detroit, a best-of collection which appeared in 1999. Desire of My Heart:Live is an outstanding record that captures the soul and passion at the heart of Armstrong's music. The CD diplays many of her best known and popular songs and is highly supported by the Perfecting Praise Choir, Pastor Marvin Winans, and many other family members.
