ApologetiX at Shout 2001

I got to see some of my favorite bands at Shout 2001 in Charlotte, NC on June 23, including in order of performance, Rod Laver (which has a video titled Song 10 on TVU, and are currently working a new to come out in November 2001), Adam's House cat, Ace Trouble Shooter, ApologetiX, Gospel Ganstaz, Earthsuit (their video One Time gets a lot of airplay on Praise TV & TVU channel plus several of the CCM video shows, including G-Rock), Disciple, Relient K, Stavesacre, Sin Dizzy, Michael Sweet, Project 86, & Third Day.  All of the bands were excellent of course. But there is one band that has their own in nitch in the Christian Music Industry that nobody else has ever touched to my knowledge. This band is now popular with those that attended the concert but never heard of heard of Christian Music that has a good beat. This could be the crowd that listens to the top 40 in the secular realm. Almost everybody has heard of  The Backstreet Boys, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Led Zepplin, ZZ Top, Matchbox 20, and other bands that either made or making their mark on the charts. I'm really not familiar with the top 40 bands of today, but I could tell that the giant crowd around me at the concert was! You may ask what do those bands have to do with Christian Music? It's not the bands, but the songs that they did are being "Christianized" by ApologetiX to spread the Gospel in a new way. These guys are  the Weird Al Yankovic of Christian Music would be the best way to describe them.

About a year ago when I discovered this band for the first time I did an article on them because there music was so awesome and professionally done I thought that ZZ Top got born again. It ended up being Apologetix doing a parody of ZZ Top's Sharp Dressed Man but with a new title and message of a Smart Blessed Man! This year I got to see them in concert for the first time, and it was amazing! The whole crowd was getting into every tune that they did. I particularly enjoyed their rendition of Stairway to Heaven (spoofed version), Karl played the hard part of it blind folded, behind his back, and every which way but loose! J. Jackson, the lead singer continually amazes me how he can he can sound just like the original artists who made the songs popular. You have got to hear these guys to believe it!
