David/Asaph Project: Psalmodyyour musical influences? David: The church of my childhood exposed me to a wide variety of praise and musical expressions. Some of the most memorable melodies of praise were the songs in which the text of the Bible was set to music. Psalm 100 is a familiar example to many people. Other favorites included Exodus 15:1-2, Psalm 20:7, Isaiah 6:1,3, and Matthew 6:33. Many of these songs were sung in home prayer meetings. Secular music during the late 1960s and 1970's also had a profound influence. I recall singing Let it Be in guitar mass on several occasions. Turn, Turn, Turn, by the Byrds, based upon Ecclesiastes Chapter 3, impressed me that words from the Bible could be placed to popular music. The other important influences for me was the Maranatha Singers, classical music, Jars of Clay, The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkle, Yes, CSN&Y, A.L. Weber, and others.
