Mark Lowry . . . Mouth in Motion

Mark Lowry is known to Christians as the Weird Al Yankovic of Christendom. If you haven't heard any of Mark's material yet, you owe it to yourself to check out his web site and buy some of his CDs! They will make you laugh, or at least for some, it will make them smile real big. (They would be laughing on the inside, but possibly trying to hide the outward display of emotion.) After listening to Mark for awhile though, you will not be able to contain the giggles, and may bust out in uncontrollable fits of hilarious laughter. You have been forewarned!

The title I have is his Mouth in Motion CD. It was released by Word Records in 1994, and was a gold selling video.

The first song, "The Date Adventure" is a parody of Steven Curtis Chapman's "The Great Adventure." Mark has proved he can carry a note and sing along the lines with the best of them . . . but he won't admit it. This song is about his experiences on dates. It starts out with the lyrics "Going on a blind date!" and continues with the excellent sound just like SCC, but with the lampoon lyrics. I especially like the part of the song where he says "All I want's a girl . . . not Mr. Ed!" What really still gets me is that out of the right speaker in the background, you can hear Mr. Ed saying "Hello Wilbur . . ."

Paw Paw's Chin is a standup comedian story about how he has his Paw Paw's big huge chin that's twice as big because it has a dimple right in the center! Then it moves on into the satiric version of the Michael W. Smith song "Place in This World." In Mark's version, called "Face In This World," he's "looking for a surgeon who'll work overtime to help him find his face in this world."

"Every Teacher" is a satire of Amy Grant's "Every Heartbeat." Mark admitted he has ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), and did have a problem as a child in school with trying to sit still. In this lampoonery he tells of his times in detention, the spit wads, paper airplanes, blowing up the school, and other amazing tales of his school days. Mark hasn't forgot about his teachers and how they treated him though . . . . He has revenge by talking about them in his concerts now! His teachers probably didn't think they would impact his life in the least bit, since he didn't pay much attention to them anyway. But one note to be made is that on the CD, Mark was told by his teachers, "Mark, your life's gonna be a joke!" This is very ironic now, because he is presently celebrated as the King of Christian Comedy!
