There is a new CCM Band called Zilch that has recently released an album called "Platinum." A peculiar fact about this band is that virtually everyone into Christian Music has heard it play before but they just don't realize it. Strange as this may sound, it's true as I stated. This band has had its music on secular and Christian radio, and has played before thousands. Even though it's been heard, it's not recognized for what it is.
OK . . . for those who already know the history of Zilch, I must unveil this band's not-so secret past to the rest of us. (I just learned of this a couple days ago myself.) Zilch was DC Talk's band that traveled with Toby, Mike and Kevin from 1994 to1997! Zilch members are: Otto "Sugar Bear" Price (Vocals, Bass), Mark Townsend (Vocals, Guitars), Jason Halbert (Vocals, Keyboards - B3, Moog, synth). Their sound isn't the expected DC Talk style like you would think, but rather, varies depending on which tune you are listening to. Some of the music sounds like ska, pop, power-pop, retro-funk, and there's some 60's thrown in. This will probably never be a number one bestseller, but it is an album that you can tell these guys enjoyed making. They love what they do; one their main missions is to interact with their audience. This is something they couldn't do with 15,000 concert goers while performing with DC Talk. Could you imagine trying to minister one on one to 15,000 people? To read a letter from Michael Tait of DC Talk about Zilch, click here! This will help explain the vision of Zilch.
