"There is nothing better to them than taking to the golf course and doing a little hugging and kissing between drives and putts." Amy and Vince met in 1993 when Vince asked the singer of Baby Baby to appear with him at a Christmas show in his native Oklahoma. Tennessee native Amy says, "We got along like two peas in a pod and make no bones about it." Trouble was that Amy was married to gospel singer Gary Chapman while Vince was married to country singer Janis Gill, half of the popular Sweethearts Of The Rodeo duo. Soon, Vince and Amy were spotted with each other more than with their spouses, attending Belmont College basketball games in Nashville and pairing off on the golf course. In 1997 Vince filed for divorce after 17 years with Janis. Her lawyers cited Vince’s relationship with Amy as a cause of the breakup, claiming Janis had found love letters written between the pair. Vince and Amy said they would testify under oath that they had never had sex. But the divorce was said to have cost Vince up to $17 million. Amy filed for divorce from Chapman on New Year’s Eve, 1998. After the divorce became final, Amy accompanied Vince on his tour bus during concert swings, although she wore a blond wig to deflect attention. USA Today/October 12, 1999Amy Grant and Vince Gill are officially an item, according to an interview with Grant in Saturday's Tennessean. The two Nashville stars have been seen all over town together lately, including at church, a Nashville Predators hockey game and a Waffle House. They're writing a song together - Look What Love's Revealing. Grant says it feels silly for a 38-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man to say they are dating. "Is that the kind of thing that the natural conclusion is that eventually these two people will wind up together and grow old together? I hope so." Grant divorced her singer husband, Gary Chapman, in June after 16.5 years of marriage; Gill divorced his singer/songwriter wife, Janis Gill, in 1997. Tennessean/October 9, 1999 Amy Starts Over Grant Picks Up Pieces After Divorce, With The Help Of Vince Gill Waiting for Amy Grant to arrive for a visit, a staffer at Vanderbilt University Children's Hospital wonders, "Vince Gill didn't sneak in with her, did he?" Everybody, it seems, is asking about Vince and Amy these days. The two have been fast friends for years. On Sept. 28 they attended a Nashville Predators hockey game together, prompting speculation about their relationship in the wake of Grant's divorce from singer and TV personality Gary Chapman.
