"People know they're friends, but they seemed more than that at one restaurant," says an eyewitness. "They were holding hands and seemed lost into each other."
Adds a source: "Gary really has been really down over Amy -- I mean, they were married for 16 years and have three kids. And it wasn't his idea to break up, it was something that Amy wanted.
"Ashley has known Gary a long time, and she's been on his TV show. She's been spending a lot of time with him, helping him sort out his feelings. But they also found they have feelings for each other."
Judd, the hot star of Kiss The Girls, has had a series of high-profile relationships with stars such as Matthew McConaughey and Michael Bolton. But she has never married.
"Ashley has been gun-shy about marriage because of her family's experiences. Her mom Naomi split with her dad when she was just a baby, and now she's seeing what sister Wynonna is going through with her messy divorce from husband Arch Kelley.
"But with Gary, Ashley sees a man of integrity, with firm Christian beliefs, who has had a troubled past and really made something of himself. And she's even said to her friends that she finds him attractive.
"Most people think that when the dust settles from the breakup, Amy will wind up with Vince Gill. Gary has heard the rumors, and he gets really sick of Vince Gill's name being brought up all the time.
"That's why I don't think he minds one bit being seen out with a beautiful, successful woman like Ashley -- it shows that two can play at that game."
