Why Christian Music?

© Daniel Janowski

Despite what we believe, music has a profound effect on our lives. Whether it's Christian, Secular, New Age, Pop, Rock, Country, Praise & Worship, etc....

Sometimes it maybe the subliminal message behind the music. For example: A popular retail store was experiencing a problem with a very high rate of shoplifting. It was recommended to them to try music with subliminal messages in it instead of what they were currently playing over the stores sound system. It worked! Surprisingly enough, the MUZAC style music with the subliminal message saying something to the effect of "Your a nice shopper, you don't want to steal anything from here." The shoplifting dropped over 50% as soon as they started using this tactic!

Today's music scene doesn't even hide behind subliminal messages, like they use to...It's very obvious that a lot of them promote sex, drugs, rebellion, and the occult by the lyrics, concert activity, interviews, album covers and etc.

Now, what about the so called "soft rock" or "harmless" stuff? Well...there's a little more to it than just lyrics...There are some questions to answer that question. Such as: What type of lifestyle is the artist engaged in? Are they on drugs or alcohol? Do they promote rebellion? Are there sexual overtones in their songs? The "spirit" from the artist and their music is often imparted to unsuspecting listeners, who don't know anything about "spiritual warfare" and wonder why they feel like they are on the verge of suicide or giving into sin.

It isn't the beat or style of music that is "evil", but rather the "spirit" that comes from the artist and/or the lyrics. There are many Christian Metal Bands out there that rock for the King of Kings...but they sound sortta like the big Metal Bands that glorify sin. So, what is the difference? The Holy Spirit and the evil spirit! Night & day! Music styles are always changing but the Lord Jesus Christ is the same today and never changes! There are Christian bands that have as their goal to minister to the youth of today. There are several kids and adults who have received the Lord Jesus Christ as their own personal Saviour at Christian Rock Concerts. Some of these were people who would never think of going into a Church. Their salvation experience was real and they have had their lives and hearts changed by means of the Gospel message in today's Christian Music!

How do ya know if what your listening to is Christian? Check out the lyrics to the songs, research the artist, ask a Youth Pastor. There are still some churches that may not accept Contemporary
