Smitty put on an excellent concert (as always) at Paramount's Carowinds'
Palladium, located in Charlotte, NC on Saturday, April 24, 1999. It was
a packed out event and anticipation grew minute by minute as we all waited
for his stage appearance. Finally at 8:00 PM sharp, the music started.
It was a reprise of the song "Live the Life", everyone started to get excited,
standing on their feet...then Michael breaks into "Missing Person", a most
excellent song that all fans know by heart. This was followed up by "Secret
Ambition", then "Place in This World".
After everyone's heart beat started to slow down, Smitty asked the crowd if we would like to hear some material from his new album. Of course we do, and the audience went wild again. The single he did while playing the keyboard had some of the following words in the chorus line..."O Leo, O Leo, Come as you are....O Leo, O Leo, Come as you are....O Leo, I love you, Come as you are to the bright and Morning Star." It was an upbeat tune that will definitely be a smash hit. The new album is projected to be released in October of 1999. The tune "Leo" may be one of the singles released prior to the full album release for airplay on local Christian Radio Stations. I would project to listen out for it around the end of August or maybe September 1999, hopefully sooner! There shouldn't be any delays on the new album release slated for October, like the postponement of 6 months that "Live the Life" went through, due to dealing with a new Record Producer. After we all showed our approval for the new number, "Leo", it wasn't long after that he did "Show You the Way" and "Breathe in Me". Then came the surprise...Smitty announced to the fans that this was his 11 year old son, Tyler's birthday! Well, of course we all had to join in with Michael and sing "Happy Birthday" to Tyler, as one of the stage hands carried him over the shoulder. It appeared that Tyler was a little shy of this stage appearance. After we got done singing though, he bowed before the audience as a gesture of thanks for acknowledging his birthday, then scooted off quickly to the back stage! With 12 albums and a 13th to come, it's hard to play all of everyone's favorites, but I believe that he did do the most favorites of all time, and nobody was disappointed in the least. Smitty then performed "I Will Always Be Here For You" and "How Majestic is Your Name". It seemed like
