Over the past year, I have received countless e mails, messages and the like from wonderful people who, with the best of intentions, want to solicit support for their work. However, as the work I support and encourage is called "Christian" (a Christ follower), any organization, work etc. must meet minimum requirements. It's sort of like Cola A and Cola B. They are both colas- but only one is the "real thing". There is a difference between the gospel and a counterfeit. The particular practices of a church (i.e. liturgical, pentecostal, etc.) matter little to me (or, I think, to God). But orthodoxy does matter. And that will be the subject of the next couple of articles. I want to share the basics of Christian belief (with much gratitude to Dr. Kurka, professor of theology at Lincoln Christian College
I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of Heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary: Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended into hell (hades, the abode of the dead): The third day he rose again from the dead: He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty: From thence he shall come to judge the quick (alive) and the dead: I believe in the Holy Ghost: I believe in the holy catholic (universal) church: the communion of saints: the forgiveness of sins: the resurrection of the body: And the life everlasting. Amen
