Child Rescue International

I have been to Romania three times and wanted to do something to help the kids that I saw there. Child Rescue International is a ministry of Mission Without Borders, a Christian outreach and relief ministry based in California. They are a tax exempt, non profit organization founded in 1960 to help the underground church.

When Romania opened up in 1989, they assessed the desperate situation of the orphanages and immediately began a massive relief effort. However, long term assistance was vital, so they formed Child Rescue International (CRI), which provides sponsors for children in state homes. The money is combined with other donors, so all the children in a CRI sponsored home receive warm clothes, food and medical aid (which is very hard to come by in Romania). They also invite evangelical local churches to visit with the children and present Bible classes. CRI pays for teaching materials and transportation costs, as many Romanian churches are poor as well. CRI has recently expanded into Moldova which also has thousands of orphans and abandoned children. It costs only $20 a month to help a child.

You can receive a financial statement by calling 1-800-245-9191 on a weekday. According to the 1997 statement, 95% of monies received went to ministry purposes (only 5% for fund raising and administration!) If you can receive attachments on your e mail I can e mail you a copy of this. Mission Without Borders has one of the lowest overheads I have seen for a ministry. Sponsorship can be paid by credit card or check monthly. You can also have the money taken directly out of your checking account on the 5th of each month.

Please consider sponsoring a child through CRI. For more information, you can access their web site at http://www.mwbi.org. You may also e mail me at jeffltaylor@yahoo.com.
