An Easy Window Treatment

Windowtreatment 004.jpg
I then placed the bottom rod into its pocket, pulled the panel somewhat tautly to its position just above the sill, and attached the rod in the same manner as the first one. With the first panel now in place, I could "eye-ball" lining up the remaining panels' top rods and attach the panels in the three other windows. You might want to use a carpenter's level to insure that all the panels are the same height.

If your window size is large enough, tension rods will work even better than the rods I nailed into place. If you prefer the curtains to be attached on the outside of the frame, measure the width of the window from the center of each vertical side. Follow directions on the package for attaching to your window frame.

To add a decorative, personal touch, I used a small rubber stamp of a fleur-di-lis and some gold metallic ink to add a delicate pattern to my fabric. You might sew on stars, beads or fringe, or add tailored bows to your panels for a coordinated look in your room. Iron-on appliques would look great, as would stencils with fabric paint.

This window treatment costs very little. The rods are inexpensive and can be purchased in most hardware, home improvement or department store houseware sections. You can use just about any lightweight fabric, or even buy coordinating bed sheets to cut into panels. (Open up one of the hems to hold the curtain rod - an instant pocket!) Even if you don't sew, you can use iron-on tape to make the hems and pockets. You might want another pair of hands to hold the panels in place while you attach the rods, however.
