You're Putting WHAT In Our Drinking Water?

Fluoridation, it seems like a no-brainer. An open and shut case. It should be a non-argument, certainly, a non-fact. But sadly, after 50 years, we are still debating this thorny issue. Even after 98% of the countries in Europe have rejected fluoridating their water, many of North American major municipalities still mandate it. Despite an mounting body of evidence of actual and potential harm, millions of people are still being forced to consume hydrofluosilicic acid and/or sodium silicofluoride.

Let's face the fact that putting these chemicals into our water supply is mass medication. If someone determined that 10% of the population suffered from headaches, would it make sense to put Tylenol in the water? Of course not. So what keeps the fluoridation train rolling? It baffles me. One visit to the website of the Fluoride Action Network (http://www.fluoridealert.org/) should be enough to compel any thinking person to rail against this insanity. Well-researched facts that you will discover there are:

1. Fluoride is not an essential nutrient. No human condition or disease (including tooth decay) has ever been linked to a fluoride deficiency.

2. Neither hydrofluosilicic acid nor sodium silicofluoride have ever been tested for either safety or effectiveness.

3. The fluoride used in our water is a waste product from the fertilizer industry.

4. This waste product carries into our water with it several other toxins, not the least of which is arsenic.

5. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has no scientific data as to the effects of fluoridation on health, long-term exposure, or effects on human behavior.

6. Fluoride is highly toxic and mistakes happen. People have died and been seriously and permanently injured when mechanical failures have occurred and too much fluoride has ended up in the water.

7. Municipal drinking water is also used in many food and beverage manufacturing processes. This compounds, multiplies and sometimes concentrates the amount of fluoride people consume. Total fluoride exposure is far higher than it was imagined 50 years ago when fluoridation began.

8. What is the overall environmental impact of trillions upon trillions of gallons of fluoridated water washing into the waterways and oceans?

9. Even in the best of circumstances, the effect of fluoride on teeth has no effect after the age of 12.

10. There is no evidence that swallowing fluoride has any effect on teeth. Topical applications of fluoride to growing teeth can have some caries-protecting benefits; however, too much can create way more trouble than none at all.

11. Even topical applications of fluoride are ineffective against 85% of dental cavities.
