The rotator cuff muscles are all located around your shoulder blade. Each has a tendon that reaches out and runs forward to attach into the top of the arm. The 4 rotator cuff muscles work in concert and act cooperatively to assist movements of the shoulder in all its different directions.

At this point it is important to understand just how the shoulder moves in order to understand the main reason why they begin to hurt. In Part 2 of this series on shoulder problems, we will look at the peculiar structures and movements of this joint that so frequently lead to pain when things don't work quite right.
