Always Change a Losing Game

In this article I'd want to tell my readers about the most meaningful book that I have ever read. This is not a new book. In fact it's around 10 years old. Let me say at the outset: This is a self-help book.

Wait, don't go just yet.

I gave up on self-help book years ago myself. I suppose we all go through the phases of self-discovery in which we read books of enlightenment and awareness, but after a time, they all begin to sound the same. Sadly, sometimes the author that we loved after the first or second publication suddenly get weird, or way too metaphysical and we lose interest. "Just give me some common sense, again", we hear ourselves saying.

At last I found the ultimate source book of self-help common sense, even though I wasn't even looking!

This book is written by a medical doctor who, coincidentally, lives only a few miles from me. The book is entitled "Always Change a Losing Game". And it oozes common sense. If you're doing something and it isn't working out, change it! That's the message of the book. The author, Dr. David Posen, has such a wonderful way of relating a myriad of life's experiences that we can all learn something from his wisdom.

I wrote an article here last September in which I criticized doctors who practiced what I called "Psychotic Medicine", writing the same prescription over and over and expecting a different result. This is the huge "Losing Game". This same pathway of psychotic behavior can be applied to all of us from time to time. Dr. Posen explores these common human traits and shows u, simply and effectively in plain language, how we can change the losing games in our lives into winning ones.

I can't imagine anyone who could not benefit from Dr. Posen's easy style and down-to-earth use of every day examples.

I am a firm believer in the "hundredth monkey theory". Briefly, this means that significant changes in society begin slowly, almost imperceptively at first, from one person to another at random. But once a critically small number of people changes, or becomes aware of a particular something, suddenly, the whole society shifts as well.

Basically, this is why I am so high on this simple book. If we all read it and got even one thing out of it...the world would grow in self-awareness. Self-awareness is the key, of course. The higher degree of self-awareness we have, the more we can be said to have matured. Dr. Posen's book, "Always Change a Losing Game" can help bring this about in all of our lives.
