Anastasia Suen seems to squeeze more minutes out of a day than others. The award-winning author is a good example of a writer who spends time writing! She is the author of more than 50 books for children. She is a frequent speaker at writer's conferences, presents workshops for school students, teaches a claws on writing the picture book at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and teaches her very popular Intensive Picture Book workshop online. She sits on the board of Reading Advisors for Rosen Publishing group. Anastasia has also been an advisor for SCWBI and a former director of Seminars in Children's Literature. Her new book, published by Writer's Digest Books, "Picture Writing" will be out next month so be sure to purchase a copy. Her books for children cover almost every age group. We always had books in our house. My mother started reading to me when I was just a baby and we visited the library every week as I was growing up. Books have always been a part of my life. 2.. How has your experience as a teacher been helpful to you as a writer? I think of myself as a teaching writer. I write and I teach. For me, the two go hand in hand. When you teach, you work with words - in public. When you write, you work with words - in private. One is quiet and the other is loud. Having both is a good balance for me. 3.. How did you get started writing for children? I wrote my first picture book when I was eleven. I wrote throughout my years at school, and when I taught school, I wrote for my students. After my children were born, I began to mail my work out to publishers. 4.. What was the first piece of writing you had published? What were the circumstances?
