There was no way I could give the children the presentation I'd planned for them in five minutes! I came away feeling very frustrated. The children should have gotten so much more....
My favorite part of the presentations is watching the children react to me as I talk to them. Seeing them laugh and gasp and just "glow" as I am telling them about being an author and about the creation of my books is so exciting to me. I believe I come away from my presentations as thrilled and rejuvenated as the children. SR: Can you mention anything about an upcoming book to be published? VK: The next book I have coming out is called, BROKEN FEATHER. It's the story of a Nez Perce boy and tells how his tribe loses their land and is eventually confined to a reservation. It's due to be released on October 14, 2002. SR: What goals do you have for yourself in the future? VK: To write more, to do more public speaking. I want to travel more (with my husband) and enjoy life to the fullest. I'd also like to someday make enough money to remodel my kitchen/living/dining room and my bathroom and closet. SR: Please plug your writing cruises and give some info on these. VK: They stopped doing this, so there's nothing to say until they (hopefully some day!) start up again. SR: Please feel free to plug any of your work. VK: I am absolutely thrilled to report that my most recent book, Tattered Sails, was just named a Children's Best Book by Child Magazine. They are having a celebration of the "Best Loved Children's Books" in New York City on Wednesday, February 27, 2002, at 7:00 PM at Barnes & Noble: 240 East 86th Street (between 2nd and 3rd Avenues,) and I'm very honored to have been asked to participate.
