Ellen Jacksonthe author's truly bizarre childhood. And if that isn't enough, my librarian friends like to give me books. That's what happens when you make friends with librarians. (Smiley inserted here.) 9. Do you do school visits? If so, what do you like and dislike about them? Yes, I do school visits. Just being around children is the biggest thrill. I get to reconnect with the child in me. I think what bothers me the most is that the kind of books I write (picture books) are so expensive. Many families don't have the money for hardcover picture books these days. 10. Will you please describe a typical "writing" day for you? There are no typical days. That's what I like about this job-every day is different and full of surprises. Today I mailed out some manuscripts, read the script of an upcoming stage production of CINDER EDNA, located the original source of a story about Abraham Lincoln, transcribed notes from an interview with an astronomer, corresponded with an editor about some lost paperwork, and reviewed samples from two illustrators. 11. Please finish the following sentences: "My passion is....children's books written with beauty, power, and grace. And humor." "In the future I hope to....plant a tree, hike in the redwood forests, play frisbee with my dog, hug my husband, and write a book that will transform a child's life." ****************** Thanks so much Ellen. I will look forward to your responses and I will let you know ahead of time when the interview "goes live." Best wishes with your writing. ----- Original Message ----- From: Sue Reichard To: Ellen Jackson Sent: Saturday, July 02, 2005 1:46 PM Subject: interview questions Hello Ellen, I appreciate your time and interest agreeing to this interview. My site pulls in around 10,000 hits a month and I hope this will make you and wonderful books better known to writers, educators and librarians. Your column will run in October and I will highlight you, your website, and your books. I won't need responses until the middle of Sept. so take your time. Thanks again, and best wishes to you in your writing career. Sue Reichard 1. Your website carries your diary from your childhood. This is a very interesting read.. I was wondering if you still keep a diary or a journal of some type? 2. You also have wonderful quotes at your website. What is your very very favorite quote
