Avi's beautiful language invites readers into the dark and mysterious and magic tale that will engage readers as the characters carry out their dark deeds through death and betrayal.

Warm Sun, Soft Sand Linzi West. Frances Lincoln Children's Books. Ages 2 to 4. 2005

This whimsical board book will engage the youngest of children with the beautiful and vivid primary colors that just make the eyes pop. Very simple text tells a simple story of a typical day at the beach. The readers will discover "soft sand, wet hands,warm sun, and a sticky bun." The cute little puppy on each page add humor to this very happy book.

Honey Cookies Meredith Hooper/Illustrated by Alison Bartlett. Frances Lincoln Children's Books. 2005 Ages 4 to 8.

Young children who are happy in the kitchen will enjoy this cleverly informative book about a young boy who is learning to cook from his grandma. Grandma and Ben are going to back honey cookies. Grandma talks through the ingredients and explains where the milk comes from and how butter is made. Next they bakers need sugar cane and Grandma explains simply how the sugar comes from cane and it is crushed and cleaned and boiled into little grains of sugar. Of course, honey, eggs, cinnamon and flour are also required. Then they roll together and make the cookies and wait for to enjoy their wonderful cookies. Vibrant primary colors will keep readers engaged along with the very likeable characters. It is a story "listeners" will relate to.

Colors: A First Art Book Lucy Micklethwait. Frances Lincoln Children's Books. 2005. Ages 4 to 8.

The 18 brilliant works of art have been chosen from six centuries of art from around the world. The dramatic paintings are used as excellent examples of ten colors. The very brief text adds a necessary amount of information and allows the color in the painting to be the focus. End notes includes information on the paintings and their authors. This is a beautiful book.
