Prior to starting the agency, Ms. Raab worked as publicity manager at Scholastic Incorporated, publicist for juvenile books at Dell Publishing and promotion associate for school and college books at Bantam Books. Before starting her own firm, she also gained experience as an account executive for high-tech products at a major Philadelphia ad agency, and had worked as a book-buyer for an independent bookstore in Connecticut.
Ms. Raab is an alumna of the University of Connecticut, where she now co-sponsors an annual children's illustration award, the Raab Prize, to encourage students to pursue careers in the arts. She serves on the Leadership Committee for UConn's Northeast Children's Literature Collection.
Susanna Reich
Susanna Reich has a broad background in children's books, business, and the arts. Prior to joining Raab Associates as a publicist in 2000, she was owner and head designer for Flowers by Susanna, which provided flowers for such varied clients as the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the American Institute of Wine and Food. Feature stories about her business appeared in The New York Times, the Gannett papers, and Hudson Valley magazine. In addition, her articles on floral design were published in several national magazines, including Bride's.
Ms. Reich is the author of Clara Schumann: Piano Virtuoso (Clarion, 1999), which won an Orbis Pictus Honor from the National Council of Teachers of English and was an ALA Notable, an ALA Best Book for Young Adults, and a School Library Journal Best Book of the Year. She serves on the Steering Committee of the Metro New York chapter of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and has a picture book biography forthcoming from Simon & Schuster.
Ms. Reich holds a B.F.A. in dance from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, did graduate work in dance ethnology at the University of Hawaii, and earned a Certificate in Movement Analysis from the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies. A former faculty member of the Dance Notation Bureau in New York, she also performed with several noted modern dance companies.
