Jewels for Christmas from Avi, Susan Albert and Raab Associates

to me, "It takes a heap of manure to make a flower grow."

The same person also said, "If you want to write well, you need to go to sleep at night thinking what you've written is great, as long as you when you wake up in the morning, you know that it was awful."

10.SR: Can you recommend an excellent ~how-to~ writing book?

AVI: No. I've never read one. I'd guess the best writing book is your favorite book-or an author you enjoy.

11.SR: Do you ever regret using just a first name?

AVI: No.

12.SR: What is the most interesting experience you have had because of your unique name?

AVI: Can't think of any.

13.SR: How would you say your writing has changed over the years?

AVI: Perhaps more focus on character, less on plot. Overall I hope it's gotten better, but that's for others to decide. The last book review is your obituary.

14.SR: Why are children and adults as well, so hungry for stories?

AVI: We live in a chaotic, increasingly irrational world. I like to think stories make connections, provide meaning, explanations (emotional and logical) and therefore help ourselves find ourselves.

15.SR: Can you discuss in general current or future projects please?

AVI: Just fiddling away on new stories.

16.SR: Please finish this sentence: ~My greatest passion is trying to live as fully as I can.
