SR: When and how did you discover you wanted to write for children? TLS: I think I probably always wanted to be a writer. My father is a writer. I've been writing since I was a little girl, and I guess I just never stopped! But in terms of my career, I started out as an editor. I edited hundreds of books before I wrote my first one. 2. SR: Can you please describe your experience from first query or submission to publication. TLS: My first experience was not a typical one. As an editor, I was developing a series for my publisher when my husband and I decided to move to a different state for his job. It was then that the light bulb went off and I asked my publisher if I could have a chance to write one of the books in the series I had been working on. Thankfully, he said yes. It was an exciting transition and one I moved into quite naturally.
