TB: I have recently finished the final edits on the text of the Dawdle Duckling sequel, which has a working title of Dawdle Duckling Hide and Seek. It's a charming story about that same dear little dawdler and dreamer and the challenges he faces when his true nature encounters the demands of hiding and seeking with his siblings. You can imagine that he's not particularly good at hiding in a timely manner! I can't wait to see what my incredibly talented illustrator, Margaret Spengler, does with these scenes. It's scheduled to publish early spring 2005; Margaret is working on illustrations right now.

Meanwhile, I am returning to a long-term project very close to my heart as I complete a revision of my colonial time travel novel, with a working title of The Rogue Pine. It is set on my colonial farm in Buxton, Maine and has connected me with the history of my town in a wonderful way.

12. SR: Please finish this sentence: "Writing for children....

TB: Writing for children has added immeasurable richness to my life; it has connected me more closely to the child within myself and has taught me so much about story arc and plot, character development, and the very real human need for an emotional journey in our stories.
